“Yeah, you just aim them peepers somewhere’s else, bub. That’s it, keep walkin.’ Nuttin’ to see here. Oh hey, you gots food? Hey, come back here, I’m talkin’ to ya’s!”

Your job this week is to write a story, poem, whatever you like about this inquisitive-looking seagull.

As always, if you do come up with something inspired by this prompt (and I hope you do) and you post it on your blog, please come back and let me know. I’d love to read it!

Happy writing!

Writing Prompt #54: Gnarly Old Tree

Here’s a pic of a tree with gnarly, twisted roots. I love old trees like this. They make me think that colonies of wood elves or fairies could be living hidden within the tangled roots or under the tree, just beneath the surface.

What images does it conjure for you?

Write a story or poem about this gnarly old tree. If you post it on your website, please come back and let me know…I’d love to read what you come up with.

Happy writing!

Writing Prompt #53: The Vulture

Here’s a new writing prompt (’bout damn time, I know). It’s a creepy photo of a vulture. Aw, isn’t the carrion eater so cute? Your job is to write his poem/story. Be sure and let me know if you come up with something. I’d love to read it. :)

Happy writing!

Oh, and a couple years ago I wrote a micro-fiction story about vultures. You can read it here: Slim Pickings.

Writing Prompt #52: Mime, with Knife

Mimes.

What the hell is the point of them, anyway?

Maybe it’s murder.

Here’s a pic of a psychotic-looking, punk-style mime holding a butcher knife. I think that is one mime show I’d want to miss.

If you write a super scary Halloween story featuring this knife-wielding mime, be sure to come back here and leave me a link. I’d love to read what you come up with.

Happy writing!

Writing Prompt #51: I Want My Mummy!

It’s almost time for Halloween.

So my next couple of writing prompts will be horror themed.

Here’s a mummy that looks like it’s screaming.

Write the story.

If you post a story based on this image to your website, please come back and leave me a link in the comments section. I’d love to read what you come up with.

When the rock band comes to town, all the girls love the drummer.

What do think about the musician who plays this set of drums?

Tell his or her story.

Happy writing.

Writing Prompt #48: Hodgepodge 3—Nuts to Soup

Reaching into the image bag this week for a mix of awesome photos and art for writing prompts. Everything from nuts to soup. Enjoy.

Writing Prompt #47: The Girl in the Blue Scarf

Here’s a drawing of a girl I found on Fotolia.

The dark blue scarf stands out for me (as the only bit of color in the drawing), but so do her eyes. They look sad and haunted, those eyes.

What happened to her, do you think?

That’s where you come in, writer. You with the pen in your hand… blank screen in front of you, fingers on the keyboard.

Write her story.

And if you post it on your blog or site, please come back here and let me know. I’d love to read it.

Happy writing!
